Hymn Against Empire
© 2004 by Robin T. Cravey
We have heard our reckless president
proclaim his sovereign right
to conquer any country
that was evil in his sight.
He has dared our fellow nations
to defy our country’s might.
His pride goes marching on!
Glory passes from our nation.
His pride goes marching on.
We have seen the jets go thundering
across the desert skies,
while peasant folks go wandering
with terror in their eyes.
Now human bombs sit pondering
and wait their time to die.
His war goes marching on!
Glory passes from our nation.
His war goes marching on.
We’ve been searching now for weapons
that our leader said were there.
But all we find is anger and
a war that’s undeclared.
Now mothers weep for children
while men burn with cold despair.
His lies go marching on!
Glory passes from our nation.
His lies go marching on.
We have seen the shameful pictures
in the press and on the news.
He created secret prisons where
men’s rights could be refused.
He has taught our faithful soldiers
how to torture and abuse.
His crimes go marching on!
Glory passes from our nation.
His crimes go marching on.
We have seen the greedy dinosaurs
that fuel our industry.
They have sold our country’s future
to the sheikhs of Araby.
Now their profits soar to fuel the war
that guards their treachery.
His wealth goes marching on!
Glory passes from our nation.
His wealth goes marching on.
In the founding of our country
we made laws to keep men free
and to stop ambitious men from using
war for mastery.
Now its time to march the streets again
for peace and liberty!
Our truth goes marching on!
Glory to our Constitution.
Our truth goes marching on.
